Etymology

From kiosk ("news stand") and välta ("to tip; to overturn") + -are, a suffix to denote someone or something performs an action similar to English -er; literally a "news stand-tipper". The term was coined in the 1970s by Arne Sundberg, editor-in-chief of Veckorevyn, a weekly magazine aimed at young women.[1]
