Cognates include Finnish pähkinä, Votic pähtšenä, pähtšänä, pähtšinä, Estonian pähkel, Veps pähkim, Ingrian päähkänä, Erzya пеште (pešte), Moksha пяште (pjašte), Eastern Mari пӱкш (pükš), Udmurt пашпу (pašpu, hazelnut bush) and possibly also Komi-Zyrian пашкан (paškan, rosehip).
