From Proto-Sino-Tibetan know. Cognate with Burmese သိ (si., “know”), Tibetan ཤེས་པ (shes pa, “know”), Sichuan Yi ꌧ (syp, “know”), Lisu know (sel/sɤ́/) and Tangut 𗓂 (/*sjɨ²/, “know”). Compare Zaiwa se and Longchuan Achang ɕɛ³¹.
