Etymology

From Hindi संघी (saṅghī), from Hindi राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ (rāṣṭrīya svayansevak saṅgh), a nationalist right-wing paramilitary group in India. Ultimately from Sanskrit सङ्घ (saṅgha, heap, multitude, crowd). Doublet of sangha.
