Borrowed from Middle High German schicken (to arrange appropriately, outfit oneself) + -ować, from Old High German *skihhen, from Proto-West Germanic *skikkijan, from Proto-Germanic *skikkijaną. By surface analysis, szyk + -ować. Doublet of szykanować (to harass, litigate).
