From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *tjak ~ g-t(j)ik (one), with the coda -k dropped. Cognate with, Burmese တစ် (tac), Sichuan Yi (cyp), Old Chinese (*tjaːɡ, single), Tibetan གཅིག (gcig, one) and Tangut 𘎤 (*tjɨ¹, one). Compare Lhao Vo da, Zaiwa ra and Longchuan Achang ta⁵⁵.
