Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *uǵʰ-éh₂, from the root *weǵʰ- (“to bring, carry”), whence also Gothic 𐍅𐌹𐌲𐍃 (wigs, “way, road”).[1] Traditionally compared with Ancient Greek ὁδός (hodós, “way, road”).[2] By some identified as the source of Ancient Greek οὔθα (oútha, “dust; way, road”).[3]
