Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اوفاق (ufak, small, diminutive, a small fragment)[1], from Proto-Turkic *ub- (to crush, to mince, to grind)[2] with the suffix -ık[3]. Cognates with Azerbaijani ufaq, Crimean Tatar ufaq, Turkmen ownuk, Uzbek uvoq
