From ulo + -nan, but might be originally from ulon (“bedhead”) + -an, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *qulun-an (“place where one rests the head; wooden headrest”) (cf. Bikol Central ulonan (“pillow”), Cebuano ulonan (“cushion leaves”), Higaonon uluna (“pillow”), Maguindanao ulunan (“pillow”)).
