Inherited from Old Polish wozić, from Proto-Slavic *vozìti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *wáźīˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *woǵʰ-éye-ti, causative/iterative of *weǵʰ- (to transport). Cognate with Gothic 𐍅𐌰𐌲𐌾𐌰𐌽 (wagjan), English wedge and Ancient Greek ὀχέομαι (okhéomai, to be borne or carried).
