From Middle English ȝuweðehode, ȝeoȝæðhad, geogeðhade, guheþehad, from Old English ġeoguþhād (literally youthhood), equivalent to youth + -hood. Cognate with Old Saxon jugudhēd (youthhood). Compare also Middle English youthede (youthhood), see youthhead.
