Learnedly, from Hellenistic Koine Greek ἀθετῶ (athetô), contracted form of ἀθετέω (athetéō), from adjective ἄθετος (áthetos), from ἀ- (a-) privative + θετός (thetós, placed). (See the mediaeval θέτω (thétō) and the ancient τίθημι (títhēmi, put).) [1]
