From Ancient Greek κἄν (kán, “if, even if”) + ποῖος (poîos, “what nature”).

Pronoun

κάποιος • (kápoios) m  a specific indefinite pronoun and determiner

  1. someone, somebody (substantivally; as a "pronoun")
    Κάποιος σε πήρε τηλέφωνο. ― Kápoios se píre tiléfono. ― Someone phoned you.
    κάποιος έρχεται (someone's coming)
    Είδα κάποιον να έρχεται ― Eída kápoion na érchetai ― I saw someone coming.
  2. some (adjectivally; as a "determiner")
    κάποιο βιβλίο ― kápoio vivlío ― some book - or other
    κάποια δασκάλα ― kápoia daskála ― some female teacher - or other
