խեթեմ

Old Armenian

Etymology

The root is խեթ- (xetʿ-), according to Ačaṙean, J̌ahukyan and Martirosyan, an ablaut grade of խայթ (xaytʿ) and thus from Proto-Indo-European *kh₂eyd-. The form խեթկեմ (xetʿkem) also belongs here.

On the other hand, Vogt derives խեթկեմ (xetʿkem) from Old Georgian ხეთქა (xetka). However, Ačaṙean considers the latter itself an Armenian borrowing.
