կիւ

From Proto-Indo-European *gʷih₃wo- (“pitch”) and cognate with Old Irish bí (“pitch”), Proto-Slavic *živica. Ultimately from either Proto-Indo-European *gʷeyh₃- (“to live”), because pitch is the plant’s ‘living material’, or *gyewh₁- (“to chew”), whence English chew, Russian жевать (ževatʹ).
