Verb

أَطْعَمَ (ʾaṭʿama) IV, non-past يُطْعِمُ‎ (yuṭʿimu)

  1. (ditransitive) to feed, to give to eat
    Synonym: أَكَّلَ (ʾakkala)
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 26:79:
      وَٱلَّذِي هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِ
      wallaḏī huwa yuṭʿimunī wa-yasqīni
      And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 76:8:
      وَيُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا
      wa-yuṭʿimūna ṭ-ṭaʿāma ʿalā ḥubbihi miskīnan wayatīman waʾasīran
      And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive
