Etymology 1

Elative of وَفِير‎ (wafīr, “abundant”) and وَافِر‎ (wāfir, “abundant, profuse”) and وَفْر‎ (wafr, “abundant, general”), from the root و ف ر‎ (w-f-r). Unusually, declined as if a color or defect adjective (according to Steingass and Almaany; see below). Also compare وَفَّرَ‎ (waffara, “to save, to economize”).
