Indo-Iranian cognates include Pashto زر‎ (zër), Baluchi ہزار‎ (hazár), Central Kurdish ھەزار‎ (hezar), Ossetian ӕрзӕ (ærzæ), and Sanskrit सहस्र (sa-hásra). Akin to Old Armenian հազար (hazar), a Middle Iranian borrowing.
