هشتن

Persian

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *selǵ- (“to let go”). Akin to Middle High German selken (“dribble (clouds)”). Other Indo-Iranian cognates include Central Kurdish ھێشتن‎ (hêştin, “permit”), Pashto ايښودل‎ (iśodəl, “to place”) and Sanskrit सृजति (sṛjati, “discharge, emit”). Also related to Old Armenian արձակ (arjak, “free, loose”) and ապահարզան (apaharzan, “divorce”) which are Iranian borrowings.
