پیمودن

Persian

Etymology

From Middle Persian [script needed] (ptmwtn', ptmʾd- /paymūdan, paymāy-/, “to measure”), ultimately from *pati- and *maH- (“to measure”). Cognate with Parthian 𐫛𐫅𐫖𐫀𐫅𐫗‎‎ (padmādan, “to measure”), Northern Kurdish pîvan (“to measure”), Sogdian [script needed] (ptmʾtʾy /patmātē/, “measured, frugal”). Akin to Old Armenian պատմեմ (patmem, “to tell, narrate”), an Iranian borrowing.
