From a variant of Aramaic זְוַּע‎ (zəwaʿ), argued to be dissimilated from its Ithpalpal form אִתְזִיעַ‎ (ʾiṯəzīʿa); compare similar Classical Syriac ܡܸܙܕܲܥܙܥܵܢܵܐ‎ (mezdaʿz(ə)ʿānā, “moveable”) and ܙܵܘܹܥ‎ (zāwēʿ, “to move”), also Turoyo ܙܳܝܰܥ‎ (zōyaʿ, “to fear”).

1. to fear, to be scared

   ‏ܝܸܡܝܼ ܗܲܡܵܫܵܐ ܟܹܐ ܙܵܕܥܵܐ ܒܗ̇ܝ ܐܘܼܪܚܵܐ.‎‎

   yimī hammāšā kē zādʿā b-aya urḥā.

   My mother always gets scared on this road.
