Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘝𑘲𑘯 (tīḷa), Maharastri Prakrit 𑀢𑀺𑀮 (tila), from Sanskrit तिल (tila). Compare Gujarati તલ (tal), Hindustani تِل / तिल (til), Punjabi ਤਿਲ (til) / تِل (til), Bengali তিল (til), Assamese তিল (til).
