Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘝𑘻𑘯𑘲 f (toḷī) (with Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-)), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀢𑁄𑀮 (tola), from Sanskrit तोलक (tolaka). Compare Gujarati તોલો (tolo), Hindustani تولہ / तोला (tolā), Sindhi تورو / तोरो, تولو / तोलो, Punjabi ਤੋਲਾ (tolā) / تولا (tolā), Nepali तोला (tolā), Maithili तोला (tōlā) / 𑒞𑒼𑒪𑒰 (tōlā), Oriya ତୋଳା (toḷa), Bengali তোলা (tōla), Assamese তোলা (tüla).
