Borrowed from Persian دشمن (došman), from Middle Persian [script needed] (dwšmn'), [script needed] (dwšmyn' /dušmen/, “enemy”), from Proto-Iranian *dušmánah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dušmánas, from Proto-Indo-European *dusménos. Doublet of दुर्मना (durmanā) and दुमन (duman).
