Borrowed from Persian پودنه (pudene, “mint”). Compare Gujarati ફુદીનો (phudīno), Hindi पुदीना (pudīnā), Punjabi ਪੁਦੀਨਾ (pudīnā) / پُدینا (pudenā), Telugu పుదీనా (pudīnā), Bengali পুদিনা (pudina), Assamese পদিনা (podina).
