- 1923, 木暮理太郎 (Kogure Ritarō), 皇海山紀行 (Sukai-san kikō):
- 皇海が何かの原因でスカイと誤読されてそのまま通用するようになったものであろう。皇は「すめ、すめら」と読むから皇海をスカイと誤読することは有り得よう。
- Kōgai ga nanika no gen'in de Sukai to godoku sarete sonomama tsūyō suru yō ni natta mono de arō. 皇 wa “sume, sumera” to yomu kara Kōgai o Sukai to godoku suru koto wa arieyō.
- This is probably because Kōgai was mispronounced as Sukai for some reason and it turned into common use as it is. 皇 is pronounced as sume or sumera, so it is probable to mispronounce Kōgai as Sukai.
- 皇海が何かの原因でスカイと誤読されてそのまま通用するようになったものであろう。皇は「すめ、すめら」と読むから皇海をスカイと誤読することは有り得よう。
