-tatik

  1. (passive suffix, archaic) Added to a back-vowel verb to form a verb with a passive meaning.
    használ (“to use”) → használtatik (“to be used”)

Usage notes

  • (passive suffix) Variants:
    -atik is added to back-vowel verbs ending in a consonant + t and most monosyllabic verbs
    ad (“to give”) → adatik (“to be given”)
    -etik is added to front-vowel verbs ending in a consonant + t and most monosyllabic verbs
    szül (“to give birth”) → születik (“to be born”)
    -tatik is added to back-vowel verbs ending in a vowel + t
    használ (“to use”) → használtatik (“to be used”)
    -tetik is added to front-vowel verbs ending in a vowel + t
    nevez (“to name”) → neveztetik (“to be named”)
