Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Most probably a borrowing thru Proto-Norse [script needed] (*kwerku), from Proto-Germanic *kwerkō. The word has been also compared with Mordvinic counterparts (Erzya кирьга (kiŕga), Moksha корга (korga)), which are however more likely derive from Proto-Slavic *kъrkъ.
