Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Akin to Proto-Samic *uksë (“door”). Possibly of Baltic origin; cf. Lithuanian uoksas (“hole”), in which case the Sami word may be early loan from Finnic. Udmurt ӧс (ös, “door”), Komi-Permyak ӧдзӧс (ödźös, “door”) and Komi-Zyrian ыбӧс (ybös, “door”) may also be related in some fashion, although no Uralic root can be set up.
