From Proto-Indo-European *wreg- (“track, hunt, follow”). Cognate with Latin urgēre (“to be urgent”), Hittite ūrki- (“track”), Tocharian B werke (“to chase, hunt”), Sanskrit व्रजति (vrájati, “to go, walk, move”).
