From Old Swedish beroren, from Middle Low German beroren, ultimately from Proto-Germanic *bi- (“be-”), *hrōzijaną (“to stir”), equivalent to be- + röra. Cognate with Danish berøre, Norwegian Bokmål berøre, German berühren and Dutch beroeren.
