From Ottoman Turkish حریت (hürriyet), derived from Arabic حُرِّيَّة (ḥurriyya, “freedom, liberty”), which is the nominalization of the adjective Arabic حُرّ (ḥurr, “free, unimpeded”), from the root ح ر ر (ḥ-r-r)[1].
