Etymology

From Persian سِدر‎ (sedr) from French cèdre as if with Classical Persian vocalism. Alternatively, misread from Ottoman Turkish سِدْر‎, having the reading sedr from French cèdre and the reading sidr from Arabic سِدْر‎ (sidr, “buckthorn”).
