Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تجارت‎ (“trade, commerce; profit”),[1][2] from Arabic تِجَارَة‎ (tijāra, “commerce, trade”), verbal noun of تَجَرَ‎ (tajara, “to trade, to traffic, to practice commerce”).[3]
