Plot
A message from the Department of Interior and Local Government is shown before the film itself starts. The message states that the agency is making steps in order to avoid further incidents as shown in the film.
The film itself begins by showing a washed-up Immaculate Conception in the beach being retrieved by the local fishermen, and this becomes the local patron saint of the town. At the present day, people are praying at the same beach for the local mayor and both Myra, a member of an opposing political clan, and Dennis, witness the event.
Myra exclaims to Dennis that the people of the town are being fooled by the town mayor, mayor Miguel Beltran. While the two are talking at a darkroom, mayor Beltran beats up two of his bodyguards because of an infraction. The beating only stopped when the mayor's family arrived and he pretended to his son that it was part of an acting skit. The mayor's officials bribed the local police in order to continue logging operations in the forest.
Myra and Dennis are unwinding in the forest when suddenly, the mayor's henchmen abducted the two and it was revealed that both Myra and Dennis were killed. Christine, a reporter for a TV station, arrived at the funeral and met Adrien, the older brother of Myra. Christine reported about the murder and Adrien sent out an angry message toward the mayor in national television. The mayor tried to hide the situation that unfolded.
The next day, Christine reported near the murder site when the henchmen attacked the news station crew, killing most of the crew and only leaving Christine alive. Christine tried to sympathize with Adrien; however, her attempts were bluffed by him. Christine tried to file a report on the incident to the local police station and it fell into deaf ears, the police captain then called the mayor about the incident. Back at the TV station, Christine argued with the head official of the TV station.
Christine went back to the local town and met up again with Adrien, and there they encountered an old man watching over them. They found him and he introduced himself as Mang Simeon. Mang Simeon then revealed the details of the murder of the two victims. As the two were abducted, Mang Simeon noticed the group abducting the two and the henchmen beat him up into not revealing the details. The two were then brought to the mayor's house to confront the mayor.
The mayor beats up Dennis as retaliation for Myra's physical attacks towards the mayor. The mayor forces the two to follow his commands or else he would kill them with his M16 rifle. As Dennis is about to be killed by the mayor, he attempts to disarm the mayor causing the bullets to fly above. The mayor then calls his henchmen to drag him away while he forces Myra to leave his house quickly. As she leaves the house, gunshots are heard, possibly indicating that Dennis is killed. While running away, Myra encountered Dennis, dying from his gunshot wounds. The mayor recaptures Myra and beats her up and the two victims, Myra and Dennis, were buried somewhere in the forest.
Both Christine and Adrien talk at the beach and Adrien talked about the details of Christine while she was alive and what Adrien talked about his life as an engineering student in order to meet his family needs. Mang Simeon's family was raided by the mayor's henchmen and he was forced to speak up. As Mang Simeon was being beaten up by the henchmen, he told them that he is no longer afraid of the mayor and he was killed by one of the mayor's bodyguards. Arturo, Mang Simeon's son, was spared from the execution.
The next day, Mang Simeon's lifeless body was in full display for the town to see, this shocked Christine and caused her to run away from the town plaza. Adrien asked her as to why she is running away and also went to see the corpse, angering Adrien and causing him to learn how to use firearms. While hallucinating about the mayor, Adrien shot a lizard. Christine on the other hand was calling her mother while Mang Pablo, a companion of hers, was being tortured by the henchmen.
Christine then asked Adrien about the whereabouts of Mang Pablo; however, Adrien did not know where he was. Adrien told Christine to return to Manila as the town is no longer safe for her, and this caused a conflict between the two of them. The mayor was visited by his wife and child and his wife told him that more reporters visited the town as more questions are being pressed against him.
Christine's head official visited the town as well as the TV station crew, the head official expressed concerns about her safety. While the two are talking, the mayor rolled up his car window and politely asked the reporters to come inside of his house. There he was pressed with multiple questions, and the mayor lies to the reporters about the situation of both Myra and Dennis. She then told the mayor about what he did to Mang Simeon and asked about Mang Pablo, causing one of the bodyguards to angrily rebuke her claims. She was then escorted off by the head official.
While the report was being broadcast, Adrien was preparing his weapons to be used to kill the mayor. Christine was being persuaded by both her parents to rest for a while since the situation in the town is tense, this led to an argument with her parents. Adrien went to her place and they met one last time. As Christine's family is about to go home to Manila, they are stopped by a checkpoint and Christine decided to get out of the car and run away from the henchmen. A chase ensued and Christine hid in the bushes to avoid capture.
Adrien argued with Christine's parents about her situation. As Christine is walking in the forest, she was seen by loggers and they chased her. She slipped from a shallow cliff and the loggers still gave chase by splitting up into smaller search parties. As Christine is cleaning up, a logger is about to kill her when he was killed by Adrien.
At the mayor's house, the mayor's wife told her husband that she would leave him and live abroad. The mayor agreed to her decision; however, he couldn't agree to his wife leaving with their only son. Christine talked to Arturo's family and learned about the situation of his family. The mayor saw his wife and son leaving him from the window.
Adrien stealthily ambushed a logger while Arturo and Christine were raided by the henchmen, with Arturo's family presumably killed. Adrien then attacked the rest of the henchmen and picked them off one by one. The police then arrived to the mayor's house; however, the town watch that was packing up informed them that the house was vacated and the mayor went to his beach house. The police then went to the beach house and talked to one of the surviving bodyguards. The bodyguard told the police captain that the arrest should be junked like before but the captain refused and ordered his men to prepare for the upcoming onslaught.
Christine is revealed to be captured by the mayor and he showed her the patron saint that he is protecting. The mayor threatened her with Russian roulette and loaded the gun with five bullets. Outside the beach house, the police and the henchmen had a brutal shootout, killing men in both sides. The mayor threatened the police that he will kill Christine if the shootout continued. Adrien continued shooting the henchmen and asked one of them about the whereabouts of Christine. This caused the mayor to become more paranoid.
Adrien captured the mayor and brought him to the beach, Arturo freed the birds that were held in the mayor's captivity. Adrien held the mayor at gunpoint and forced him to pray. The patron saint was taken away from the mayor and Adrien revealed that his ancestors were the ones who retrieved the patron saint from the beach generations ago. The police captain convinced Adrien to spare the mayor's life as he would have to be prosecuted through legal means. While Adrien was being restrained by the police for beating up the mayor, the mayor escaped from the police.
