Arabic | مەزگىل |
Etymology
Cognate with Bashkir миҙгел (miðgel), Kyrgyz мезгил (mezgil), Tatar мизгел (mizgel), Uyghur مەزگىل (mezgil)/мәзгил (mezgil).
From *mezgil (“season”), a regional innovative term. Akhmetyanov suggests this is an alteration of *menzil (“act or place of staying; one passage on a route”), from Arabic مَنْزِل (manzil, “act or place of staying”). Compare Uzbek manzil (“stopping place, camp; one passage between such camps”).
