From Middle Persian whʾl (wahār), from Old Persian 𐎺𐎠𐏃𐎼 (v-a-h-r), from Proto-Iranian *wáhār, collective of *wáhr̥, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wásr̥, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wósr̥ (“spring”).
