Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tara- (to comb), the same root of طراق (tarak, comb); cognate with Azerbaijani daramaq, Bashkir тарау (taraw), Kazakh тарау (tarau), Kyrgyz тароо (taroo), Tatar таратырга (taratırga), Turkmen daramak and Uzbek taramoq.
