From Northern Kurdish مام‎ (mam, “paternal uncle”) +‎ -ܘܿܢܵܐ‎ (-onā, the diminuitive ending), from Arabic أَعْمام‎ (ʔaʕmām, “paternal uncles”). Doublet of ܥܲܡܵܐ‎ (ʿamā).
