Borrowed from Persian شاباش (šâbâš), from the term شاد باش (šâd bâš, “be happy”), from شاد (“joyful”) + باش (“be (imperative)”). Compare Gujarati શાબાશ (śābāś), Hindi शाबाश (śābāś), Punjabi ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ (śābāś) / شاباش (śābāś), Bengali শাবাশ (śabaś), Assamese চাবাচ (sabas).
