Borrowed from Persian شاباش‎ (šâbâš), from the term شاد باش (šâd bâš, “be happy”), from شاد‎ (“joyful”) + باش‎ (“be (imperative)”). Compare Gujarati શાબાશ (śābāś), Hindi शाबाश (śābāś), Punjabi ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ (śābāś) / شاباش‎ (śābāś), Bengali শাবাশ (śabaś), Assamese চাবাচ (sabas).
