Originally 豓. Phono-semantic compound (形聲, OC *lams) : semantic 豐 (“abundant, great”) + phonetic 盇 () (corrupted to 盍).
Etymology
Schuessler (2007) minimally reconstructs, though with uncertainty, *r-jams > *jams, compares it to Thai เรี่ยม (riamB2), and proposes it was from Tai.
