Etymology

From Proto-Cariban *nôrô, *inôrô (animate singular anaphoric third-person pronoun). Compare Trió nërë, Wayana inëlë, Waiwai noro, Galibi Carib inoro, njoro. The glotal stop is unexplained, and may be a mistranscription (compare the Ye'kwana dialect cognate ñöödö).
