Etymology
Inherited from Old East Slavic, from Proto-Slavic *sòmъ, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *śámas, further possible from Proto-Indo-European *ḱomos ~ *ḱamos or unknown origin.[1][2] Compare Russian сом (som).
