An Iranian borrowing; compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾbʾd /ābād/, populous, thriving, prosperous), Persian آباد (âbâd). Just like in Iranian, functions also as a city name forming suffix -ապատ (-apat).
