Tajik торик (torik)

Etymology

From Middle Persian [Term?] (/tārīk/), from [Term?] (/tār/, darkness), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *témHos and whence modern تار (târ), and [Term?] (/-īk/, adjective-deriving suffix), whence modern ی (-i). One of a few adjectives that has preserved the final -g/k phoneme and did not undergo the regular sound change from Middle Persian to Modern Persian. Others include باریک (bârik, slender) and نزدیک (nazdik, near).
