From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (gwd /gōy/, “ball”). Cognate with Sanskrit गोल (gola), Persian گلوله (golule, “pellet; bullet”), Northern Luri گولٛاْ (goła, “pellet”), Central Kurdish گولە (gule) and گۆ (go, “ball”), Northern Kurdish gog (“ball”), Zazaki gudi (“ball; round”) and an Iranian loanword in Classical Syriac ܓܘܝܐ (gōyāʾ).
