Etymology 1

From a variant of Aramaic זִמְנָא (zimnā), itself either from Old Persian *jamānā or Akkadian simānu. The meaning of time as an abstract concept is from Persian influence. Compare Hebrew זְמַן, Arabic زَمَان (zamān) and Persian زمان (zamân).
