Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘁𑘽𑘐𑘜 (āṃgaṇa), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀅𑀁𑀕𑀡 (aṃgaṇa), from Sanskrit अङ्गन (aṅgana). Cognate with Konkani आंगण (āṅgaṇ), Gujarati આંગણ (ā̃gaṇ), Hindustani آنْگَن / आँगन (āṅgan), Sindhi اَڱَڻُ / अङणु, Maithili आङन (āṅan) / 𑒂𑒓𑒢 (āṅana).
