Etymology

Borrowed from Persian فرمان (farmân), from Middle Persian [script needed] (plmʾn'), 𐫜𐫡𐫖𐫀𐫗 (frmʾn /framān/, order, command), from Old Persian 𐎳𐎼𐎶𐎠𐎴𐎠 (framānā, command), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pramaHnam. Doublet of प्रमाण (pramāṇ) and प्रमाणे (pramāṇe). Compare Gujarati ફરમાન (pharmān), Kannada ಫರ್ಮಾನು (pharmānu), Hindi फ़रमान (farmān), Punjabi ਫ਼ਰਮਾਨ (farmān) / فَرمان (farmān), Bengali ফরমান (phoroman).
