Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘥𑘰𑘽𑘚𑘹𑘽 (bhāṃḍeṃ), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀪𑀁𑀟𑀅 (bhaṃḍaa), from 𑀪𑀁𑀟 (bhaṃḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit भाण्ड (bhāṇḍa). Cognate with Hindi भाँड़ (bhā̃ṛ).
